Corn Chowder with Keilbasa and Bacon

A not so healthy version of corn chowder. This recipe gets kicked up with the addition of bacon and kielbasa and it is truly delicious!

  • Crock Pot


  • 4 cups chicken stock
  • 1 can cream style corn
  • 1 can white whole kernal corn
  • 2 cans sweet golden whole kernal corn
  • 2 lb white potatoes (or any kind you might like) cut to bitesize pieces
  • 1 lb bacon lightly cooked and crumbled
  • 1 whole kielbasa cut into round slices
  • 1 large onion diced
  • 2 stalks celery cut into slices
  • 3 cloves garlic more or less depending on your taste buds
  • 2 tsp smoked paprika alter to your own taste
  • 1 tsp salt alter to your own taste
  • 1 tsp pepper alter to your own taste
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • Fresh Chives use as a garnish


  • Fry onion in the left over bacon grease until opaque and slightly tender. Add the garlic and cook just 1-2 minutes to make fragrant.
  • In a 4 quart crockpot add the chicken stock, cans of corn, potatos, bacon, kielbasa, onion, celery, onion, garlic, salt, pepper and smoked paprika.
  • Cook on high for 3-4 hours.
  • Slowly stir in the heavy cream and cook another 10-15 minutes (until it is slightly thickened).
  • Ladle into bowls and garnish with fresh chives!

Corn Chowder is something we have been tweeking for our entire married lives. We have played around with this classic a lot over the years but have finally settled on this particular recipe. The addition of kielbasa really adds to the flavor and also makes it even more filling.

Of course, this is a favorite with the kids in the colder months. It makes the house smell amazing and makes your tastebuds dance. When the crockpot is going, I swear the kids ask every half hour when it will be ready. As soon as we add the heavy cream, they are drooling.

Adding the kielbasa happened on a whim one afternoon. We had it on hand so we added it in. I am so glad we did too! At this point I can’t imagine a bowl of corn chowder without it! The flavor it adds is delicious. I have to say, the bacon and kielbasa go very well together – especially with the addition of the smoked paprika.

For dessert I would highly suggest you try making a Savage Apple Pie. It is a great treat on a cold night!
